How is zhike fruit peel oil extracted?
The commercial route is steam/water distillation of crushed dried zhike peel: the peel is broken down, loaded into distillation vessels, steamed, and the condensate is separated in an oil/water separator; the crude oil is then settled, fine-filtered and filled under clean conditions. It is a distillate, not a cold-pressed (expressed) oil — the expressed route is used for ripe bitter-orange peel in the Mediterranean industry and gives a different composition.
Because zhike peel is dry, tough material, yields are modest: published studies report roughly 1-3 g volatile oil per kg of dry material for assisted/hydro-distillation (one 2026 ohmic-heating-assisted study reports ≈2.65 g/kg dry weight), with conventional steam distillation in the same low-yield range. Batch distillation records (charge weight, time, steam regime) are kept per lot, and every G4S shipment includes the batch GC-MS fingerprint report.
