How is this cinnamon bark oil extracted?
This cinnamon bark oil is produced by steam distillation (water-vapor distillation) of dried cassia bark and twigs, with a re-distillation refining stage for the highest-purity grades.
Extraction Process
| Stage | Process detail |
|---|---|
| Raw material preparation | Cassia bark/twigs washed, crushed to 3-6 cm pieces, optionally soaked (saline + oxalic acid, 5-8 h) to break emulsions |
| Steam distillation | Dual-pot series steam stills; direct steam distillation, first + second pot in series for heat efficiency; pure steam source |
| Condensation | Shell-and-tube condensers, cooling water 5-15°C |
| Oil-water separation | Insulated separator at 68-75°C for 30-60 min; demulsifier (sodium sulfate + humic acid + sodium lignosulfonate) if needed |
| Re-distillation | Water distillate (approx. 0.25% oil) re-distilled at 100-120°C to recover remaining oil |
| Filling & QC | Stainless filter, automatic filling 100 g-25 kg, GC-FID/GC-MS analysis per batch |
- Traditional (老法) aging: cassia twigs stacked in roof-shaped piles, aged 20-30 days before distillation
- Steam distillation preserves the characteristic high-cinnamaldehyde profile that defines cassia bark oil
- Bark oil yields are lower than leaf oil, which is why bark oil is the premium grade
- Every batch is confirmed by GC analysis (trans-cinnamaldehyde content per GB/T 11538-2006 and GB/T 14454.13-2008) before release
