How are heavy metals and pesticide residues tested in zedoary turmeric oil?
Pharmacopoeia-grade zedoary turmeric oil is tested for heavy metals (≤10 mg/kg, ChP general method 0821, method 2) and arsenic (≤2 mg/kg, ChP 0822, method 1) on every batch. Pesticide residues are screened by GC-MS/MS against GB 2763 or EU MRL requirements for food-use grades, and can be added to the COA on request.
Test Programme
| Parameter | Limit | Method |
|---|---|---|
| Heavy metals (total) | ≤10 mg/kg | ChP 0821 (second method) |
| Arsenic | ≤2 mg/kg | ChP 0822 (first method) |
| Lead / cadmium / mercury | Individual limits per client spec | ICP-MS / AAS |
| Pesticide residues | Below GB 2763 or EU MRLs | GC-MS/MS multi-residue |
| Aflatoxins (raw rhizome) | Below regulatory limits | HPLC-FLD (on raw material) |
How Testing Is Done
- Heavy metals are determined on the oil itself by pharmacopoeia colorimetric/atomic methods
- Pesticides are tested on both the raw rhizomes (entry control) and the finished oil (release check)
- Multi-residue screening covers organochlorines, organophosphates and pyrethroids commonly used on root crops
- Third-party laboratory reports (e.g. SGS, Eurofins) can be arranged at mutual cost for export registration
Documentation
- Results appear on the batch COA; separate pesticide reports are provided when requested
- For food-flavour exports, the pesticide report and a statement of GB 2760 compliance are supplied with the documents
