How do you ensure batch-to-batch consistency of zedoary turmeric oil?
Batch consistency is managed by fixed raw-material sourcing, standardised distillation parameters and full HPLC/GC release testing on every batch. The pharmacopoeia fingerprint requirement is the strongest tool: every batch must match the reference fingerprint with similarity ≥0.95, which locks the whole composition, not just one marker.
Consistency Controls
| Control | What we do |
|---|---|
| Raw material | Fixed Dao-di areas (Wenzhou Wen-ezhu, Guangxi zedoary); rhizome grade checks on receipt |
| Harvest & drying | Standard harvest window, drying at 50-60 C for 0.5-1 h |
| Distillation | 96-102 C, ≤24 h, controlled steam rate and condenser temperature |
| Blending | Same-season lots pooled only within tight germacrone/furanodiene windows |
| Release testing | HPLC fingerprint ≥0.95, germacrone ≥7.5%, furanodiene ≥10.0%, full COA |
| Retained samples | Kept 24 months per batch for dispute and re-test |
What To Expect
- Natural variance in colour (light to pale yellow) and odour intensity is normal and does not indicate inconsistency
- Key markers germacrone and furanodiene are held to narrow internal ranges tighter than the pharmacopoeia minimums
- If you require even tighter tolerances (e.g. a defined germacrone band for your formulation), we can release a dedicated specification for annual volumes
Traceability
- Each batch has a unique number linking rhizome lots, production records, distillation log and COA
- Batch numbers appear on the label, the COA and the shipping documents for full traceability from field to finished drum
