Is the supply of this valerian root oil seasonal?
Yes — the raw material is seasonal, but the oil is available year-round. Root quality peaks in the autumn harvest, and our production planning keeps stock through the year.
Seasonality & Availability
| Window | What happens |
|---|---|
| Spring (Mar–May) | Planting and growth period; stocks from previous autumn harvest are sold |
| Summer (Jun–Aug) | Roots accumulate essential oil; limited new supply; prices may firm |
| Autumn (Sep–Nov) | Main harvest window — V. officinalis roots at peak oil content; also V. jatamansi collection season in Yunnan |
| Winter (Dec–Feb) | Post-harvest processing, drying and distillation continue; fresh distillations available |
Supply Planning Tips
- The oil itself is available all year: we distill during and after the autumn harvest and store nitrogen-blanketed drums
- To guarantee the freshest autumn-harvest oil, place orders 1–2 months before the harvest window
- Zhi Zhu Xiang (V. jatamansi) has a shorter collection season in high-altitude Yunnan — reserve early for that line
- Annual weather affects yield and marker levels (camphene/bornyl acetate) within the specification range
- We share a harvest forecast each August so customers can plan their annual contracts
For a stable price and guaranteed supply, consider a 6- or 12-month contract with fixed monthly quantities — we lock the autumn-harvest stock for contract customers.
