How consistent are batches of this valerian root oil?
Batch consistency is managed from the field to the drum. Valerian chemotypes vary with region and harvest, so we use fixed sourcing windows, a defined distillation protocol and GC-MS release limits to keep each batch within the agreed specification.
Consistency Controls
| Stage | Control |
|---|---|
| Raw material | Sourcing from established plantations (Guizhou V. officinalis, Yunnan V. jatamansi); roots harvested at fixed maturity and dried to moisture ≤ 13.0% |
| Processing | Fixed steam-distillation protocol (charge size, steam rate, 2–3 h run); CO₂ line runs its own validated programme |
| Release testing | Every batch: density 0.910–0.995, refractive index 1.470–1.510, optical rotation −38° to −8°, acid value ≤ 13, GC-MS markers camphene 9–29% and bornyl acetate 21–41% |
| Traceability | Batch number links raw-material lot, harvest date, processing run and all QC documents |
| Retention | Retained sample of every batch for 24 months |
- Marker ranges allow natural seasonal drift while protecting odour and performance
- For large contracts we can blend multiple sub-batches against a locked reference sample to tighten batch-to-batch variation
- If you need a locked GC fingerprint for your formula, we can hold a reference batch and blend to it
- Typical batch-to-batch GC-MS variation is small for marker compounds; minor shifts in minor peaks are normal for a botanical oil
