How is this tea tree oil extracted?
Tea tree oil is obtained exclusively by steam distillation of freshly harvested leaves and terminal branchlets — the only extraction method specified by ISO 4730 for genuine tea tree oil.
Extraction Method
| Step | Process |
|---|---|
| 1. Harvest | Mature leaves and terminal branchlets cut from managed plantations |
| 2. Charging | Fresh material loaded into steam-distillation stills |
| 3. Distillation | Steam passes through the plant material, releasing the oil |
| 4. Condensation | Steam-oil vapor condensed; oil and water separate |
| 5. Collection | Oil drawn off (lighter than water), filtered and filled |
- Yield: approximately 1-2% of the fresh leaf weight, i.e. about 50-100 kg of leaf per kg of oil
- Steam distillation is used exclusively — cold pressing is not applicable to leaves
- Distillation duration and pressure are controlled to optimize the terpinen-4-ol content (the key quality marker)
- The resulting oil is clear to pale yellow, mobile, and free of debris
- Each batch's extraction parameters are recorded and summarized on the COA
