Can orris absolute be used in candles and home fragrance?
Yes. Orris absolute works beautifully in premium candles, diffusers and room sprays, but its waxy nature and heat sensitivity require special handling:
- Candle: pre-dissolve in fragrance oil or carrier at 0.05–1% before adding to wax at 60–70°C; stir thoroughly
- Reed diffuser: 0.1–0.5% in the diffuser base (pre-dissolve in ethanol)
- Room spray: 0.1–0.5% in the perfume-alcohol phase
Home Fragrance Guide
| Format | Recommended level | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Candle | 0.05–1% | Pre-melt with wax, stir well |
| Reed diffuser | 0.1–0.5% | Pre-dissolve in ethanol |
| Room spray | 0.1–0.5% | In alcohol phase |
- Do not exceed recommended levels — the powdery note can dominate if overused
- Avoid overheating: add after wax has cooled below 70°C to preserve the ionone profile
- The warm powder aroma performs superbly in 'iris-candle' and 'powder-linen' concepts
