Is michelia leaf oil supply seasonal?
Harvest is seasonal, but supply to our customers is not. We build buffer stock during the production window so orders are filled year-round without interruption.
Seasonality Explained
| Stage | Timing | Detail |
|---|---|---|
| Leaf harvest | Warm season (approx. May-October) | Fresh leaves are picked during the growing season; quality peaks when leaves are fully mature |
| Distillation campaign | Concentrated in the harvest window | Fresh-leaf steam distillation gives the highest linalool yield (0.2-0.3%) |
| Buffer stockholding | After each campaign | We hold 3-6 months of forward stock in nitrogen-blanketed tanks |
| Off-season supply | Year-round | Blends and lots are released from stock with full COA traceability |
What This Means for Buyers
- You can order 12 months a year; lead time stays 15-30 days regardless of season
- New-harvest lots usually arrive with a brighter, greener top note — many buyers time purchases to the new season for premium quality
- Price can be slightly higher just before the next harvest as stocks thin, and firmer right after the campaign
- For very large programmes we recommend a seasonal supply agreement: we reserve production from the next campaign for your forecast
- Weather (typhoons in Fujian/Guangdong) can shift the harvest by 2-4 weeks in some years — we communicate crop updates proactively to customers on contract
