FAQ Header

Are heavy metals and pesticide residues tested in michelia leaf oil?

Yes. Heavy metals and pesticide residues are part of our routine quality panel for michelia leaf oil, with the limits selected according to the end-use market (food vs. cosmetic vs. fragrance).

Heavy Metal Limits (Food Grade GB 2762 / Cosmetic GB 7916)

MetalFood-grade limitCosmetic-grade limit
Lead (Pb)≤ 2.0 mg/kg≤ 10 ppm
Arsenic (As)≤ 1.0 mg/kg≤ 2 ppm
Mercury (Hg)≤ 0.1 mg/kg≤ 1 ppm
Cadmium (Cd)≤ 0.5 mg/kg≤ 5 ppm

Pesticide Residue Testing

  • The NMPA cosmetic ingredient catalogue (No. 01150) lists pesticide residues as a risk substance for michelia leaf oil — we run a multi-residue screen covering organophosphates, pyrethroids and organochlorines (200+ compounds via GC-MS/MS QuEChERS)
  • Fresh leaves are washed and inspected before distillation, reducing field residues at source
  • For food-grade lots, compliance with GB 2763 maximum residue limits for spice-type botanicals is confirmed on request
  • Results are reported on the COA or in a separate residue report for high-value orders
