How does true lavender compare with lavandin and spike lavender?

We supply true lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) — the premium species. The market also trades lavandin (L. × intermedia) and spike lavender (L. latifolia), which are cheaper but chemically different.

Species Comparison

SpeciesLinaloolLinalyl acetateCamphorCharacter
True lavender (angustifolia)20–43%25–47%≤1.5%Soft, floral, premium
Lavandin (× intermedia)~25–35%~25–35%4–10%Coarser, more camphor
Spike lavender (latifolia)~40–50%~3–15%10–20%Sharp, medicinal camphor
If a cheaper quotation for "lavender" is far below market, check the camphor and ester levels — it is very likely lavandin or spike. For aromatherapy and fine perfumery, true lavender's low-camphor softness is the non-negotiable quality.

Send us the competitor's GC-MS and we will benchmark it against our true lavender profile.
