FAQ Header

Is the oil soluble in ethanol, oils or water — what does that mean for formulation?

The oil is soluble in ethanol and fixed oils but insoluble in water — the standard behaviour of a terpene-rich steam-distilled oil, which determines how it must be incorporated in finished formulas.

Solubility and Formulation Guidance

MediumBehaviourFormulation tip
EthanolSolubleStandard carrier for fine perfumery and sprays
Fixed oils (jojoba, fractionated coconut)SolubleDilution for massage and cosmetics
DPG / IPMSolubleIntermediate carrier for emulsion work
WaterInsolubleUse a solubilizer (e.g. polysorbate 20) or an alcohol blend for mists
For cooling mists and eye-care serums, pre-dilute the oil in ethanol or a solubilizer before adding water to avoid cloudiness or separation. This keeps your emulsion stable and your label clean.

Share your target product form (spray, serum, candle, lotion) and we will recommend the correct dilution and carrier system.
